Klaus von Klitzing

Klaus von Klitzing was born in 1943 in Schroda and received his PhD from the University of Würzburg in 1972. He is director at the Max Planck Institute for Solid State Research in Stuttgart, Germany with research activities in nanoelectronics. His discovery of the Quantum Hall Effect led to the Nobel Prize in Physics 1985 which plays an important role not only in quantum physics but also for the worldwide introduction of a new international system of units. He was involved in the opening of the AIMS center in Sénégal and Cameroon and is engaged in the support of scientific education.
